I was referred to this combo and wanted to know if anyone else has tried the combination of Duragloss 501 and then 105. It is supposed to be killer on white. How exactly do you apply each. I heard somewhere that you leave 501 on, then apply 105, then buff off some time later. Help por favor. :poke:

Nothing and I repeat nothing looks better on white than DG 501/DG 105. The method you were told does seem to be a bit off. I use this combo a lot and I apply the 501 with a white pad. After applying to the entire car go back and buff it off (it comes off extremely easy). Then I apply the DG 105 by hand with a foam applicator. Now most times before putting on the 105 I will hand apply via a foam applicator DG 601 bonding agent. Now you DON'T buff this off after application. Once the 601 is applied to the entire car you go back and apply the 105 right on top of it. Once its applied I usually wait about 15 minutes or so and buff it off.

Now this combo looks great on any color but it just phenomenal on white. Hope this helps. You could go back and look at any show and shines I've done with white cars and you will see this is my money combo.

Great advice. JL is correct. You were probably thinking of the 601 (bonding agent). That is the one that you leave on and apply 105 over.

What is the point of applying 501 before 105? Arent both pretty much the same product, but for different purposes. They both contain cleaners, which makes it seem like 105 would remove 501.

To clean the paint more thoroughly. The cleaners are much stronger in 501. 105 has cleaners, but they are very mild IME. Definitely not strong enough to remove 501.

Any cleaners in 105 would be slight at the best. 501, however, has very good cleaning ability and I've seen it turn a white pad grayish black after polishing. Also the protection in 501 is not up to the level of 105. You can get about 2-3 months of protection out of 501 alone, but you can easily get 6 months or more out of the combo of 501 then 105. blk45 nailed it in his explanation.

Whats the durability of 105 alone?

Ive personally seen 4 months out of 105 alone, that was on my car last winter that was driven probably 80% of the winter but garaged when not in use. At 4 months the protection was still there, just not beading as good anymore.

I know you can get 4-5 months out of 105 when applied over 601. I'm not sure if the bonding agent really helps the longevity but that's the only way I've applied the 105. I don't want to tell you 4-5 months durability of 105 alone when I don't know for sure if 601 helps. Not personal experience but I have heard from reliable people that 5 months of durability of 105 alone is not unheard of.

I'm with JL (again). I have never used 105 without 601, so I can't say for sure Dan. However, as mentioned, with the 601, it easily makes 4-5 months.

I have been wanting to try this combination since I talked to my friend richy a little while back. I forgot what he told me to do. The durability isn't my main concern. I always try do my cars before it's time anyway. I know you guys are all straight now but I'm still a little confused on which order to use them In. Could you please list them In order for me. Thank You Very much.:thumb:

Buddy..what you want to do is apply 501 like JL said and then follow it up with 601 using a foam applicator and when you've gone around the whole car, WITHOUT BUFFING IT OFF, apply 105. You can either do it with a foam applicator as well, or what I've done lately, is apply it with a 3" blue pad using my UDM. I do this so I ensure complete coverage and it works for me. The 601 is optional but its benefits are quicker curing time and a durability boost. That info is from Jerry at DG...he's the one who invented it. What I like about using the 601, notwithstanding the greater durability, is that I can follow up with AW about an hour or so after applying the 105. I love the look of AW and make sure the customers' cars get it applied. So in fact the products, in order, are 501, 601, 105, AW.
    Hope that helps.

JL and richy are correct, I've used this combo for quite a bit my self..actually I'm just about all out of both, hopefully Chris will be getting me the gallon containers I requested of both of these products. These two products are incredable, they will easily last through our harsh winters and that's exactly what I use them for :thumb:

All the fire trucks I detail, this is the combo they get, the owner of the business enjoys this combo and requests it all the time even on his own personal vehicles.

I'm glad I listend to Al-53, richy, JL, sparkee..ect..ect..there are many members that recommended this combo to me and I'm glad I listened to there advice.

Nica's use on the fire trucks is a great example of how well this combo looks on red. Like I said it looks stunning on all colors but on white (and silver is a close second) it's just phenomenal!

My understanding is that 105 needs to cure 12 hours before applying either a second coat or AquaWax. Is that wrong?

That is the general rule of thumb, however some have said that when used with the 601 (bonding agent), you can layer it in a shorter amount of time. I think Richy is the one that has mentioned that. IIRC, he was told that by Jerry at DG. PM Al-53. He knows more about this stuff than DG does!
