As we all know, I am an impulsive buyer. Well, I bought a bad ass Nikon D60 setup a while back and sold it on here for a great price. Then a few months later decided to get another DSLR setup and got a new D3000 and a few lenses and an SB600 speed light. I spent right around $1200 last week on everything. Well, this weekend I was talking to my cousin Dom in NY about cameras and lenses. He was a professional photographer, he free lanced for many magazines and media outlets in his time. Well, he made me a great offer on a almost new Nikon D3 with 4 lenses, a bag, SB900 flash kit, tripod, monopod and a few ball heads. The price, you say? $4000. 2 of the lenses he is including are over $5000 each, not to mention the camera body is about $5000 by itself. So, my question is this..should I sell the new D3000 set up for a great price here and get the D3 set up or should I stick with the D3000 and tell him no thanks? Help me out folks.
Admitting you have a problem is the first step. Cogratulations. Pass on his offer, Tom. Its a great deal, but until you learn how to use the basic stuff you have, there is no point in spending more money on better equipment. The D3000 is more camera than you'll probably ever need or even learn to use to its potential. Keep it simple. Get a good everyday lens, a wide angle and telephoto and spend some cash on lessons. Check out this site-KenRockwell. This guy has some amazing stuff yet only takes his D40 and a flash for most outings. Hmmmm.....
I Can take the D3 to lessons and it comes with a bunch of lenses. The money is not an object, it's just $4000. I think for overall value, the D3 may be the way to go.
If the package is worth that minimum of $15K, and he is offering it to you for 4K, I say why the hell not. It's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it Sorry to add fuel to the fire DICSLAIMER: I am an impulsive buyer myself. Take that into consideration.
I realize that the money isn't an issue and that you can take the D3 to lessons, my point was that for the average guy, the big dollar lenses are a little overkill. Keep it simple. Now go read the link I sent and you'll see what I mean.
So the package is worth $15k and you could get it for $4k.... why not buy it and take what you want from it and resell the rest..:shead: Sounds like a smooth $5-10k profit for more detailing toys!!
id say take the 4 grand buy new tires and wheels for your gto (modding my car always makes me happy) and spend the rest on hookers and strippers. just invite all your DB buddies :joint: no but in all seriousness as Ken said i think its a bit of overkill and btw im an impulse buyer as well. then again you could go for the deal. use it a bit see if theres really a difference and if your not happy sell one of the kits and make some dough
I have brand new RUFF's on my car. I spend PLENTY on my car. This is just a little deal I want to do to get a real nice camera. If I don't like it, someone else will get it.
I think spryal is FMINUS reborn!!! Dude, if you have the money and it's of no consequence weather you spend the money or not, then do what makes you happy. But I would look into why you feel you need to always have the best of everything. and why you can't be content on with what will do YOU good. anyway, enough Dr. Phil from me!! haha
Sure, since money isn't a concern for you, go ahead and buy it if it makes you happy. However, if you want my real advice... learn how to use the equipment before moving on. I feel the same way about people who purchase exotics and have no idea how to drive them. Good luck in whatever you do Tom.
The reason? Because I can. Because I busted my ass to get where I am and like nice things..lol. I thank God every day for giving me the opportunities I have had and the successes I have had.
i think you should sell me the lenses and let me use them on my D300. i need a good, fast telephoto lens for my sons sports.
