hey guys, wondering what to use on headlights after polishing them from yellow back to clear again. did a couple of headlights and forgot that I need to seal/wax them and the came back to yellow in noo time. can any of you point on the most durable sealant that will protect freshly polished headlights to keep them from going yellow again? thanks godoman
i personally use Rejex on headlights or even a wax. Sealant of your choice. Something is better then nothing.
hmm...i was thinking collinite might work. Its very durable. Ive never thought about waxing my lights before. Is this something that is necessary? (assuming that they are unpolished)
yes, it is necessary to put a sealant on your headlights "only" after you have polished them clear again or the yellow always comes right back in a week or two depending on how the sun is in the area that you live. godoman
SEM has a headlight sealant? I am gonna have to talk to my dad about it. Is it the UV curing one, if so I have beta samples...hmm..will have to ask him about it tomorrow (Dad heads the R&D lab)
If it is what I am thinking it is a spray on coating like clear but is cured via UV lamp. It can be air dried if you set the car out in the sun, UV from the sun is enough to cure it, but it will take little longer. http://semproducts.com/Catalog.asp?prod=321
I used to use Plastic Renew to recoat the headlight lens and it work pretty good. I have been using a 50/50 mixture of Helsman marine varnish and mineral spirits spread on with a shop paper towel. Just using a paint sealant won't last and you will have to keep polishing over and over. Waxes can't sand up to the high temps that the lenses experience. You have to replace the permanent UV coating that you completely removed with the abrasive polishing with something.
i was looking at UV selants. there are couple on ebay and some methods ppl posted using hope depo products to do it. UV is what damages headlights after protective coat is taken off during wetsanding. i need one for my headlights
