I am looking for a paint thickness gauge but I really don't want to spend $500.00+ considering I do this on the side, for a select few customers. Any recommendations????

Highline II here also. Basic, easy to use, and just works right out of the box. Not gonna read bumpers and other painted plastics though.

I have never seen a depth gauge at that price with positive reviews nice to know about.

Do these gauges work on fiberglass, probably not...right?

no this gauges do not work on fiberglass, only on ferous and non ferous metals, well most will do both, HL 2 does metal and aluminum.
if you need to do fiberglass panels then expect to pay about $1700 for positector 200 basic, if you want it to tell you measurement for each individual layer (clear, color and primer coat) then you would need to get positector 200 advanced which is about $2700
