I've got a really good friend who I am trying to get into taking better care of his car. It's a dark blue 2002 Camaro and it's his baby, and has great sentimental value to him as well. He says he wants to start taking better care of it though (as he didn't even know what waxing was till I told him about it) and I said I'd get him a list of things he can use on it. I figured I'd start with paint care. I want some help figuring out the best list of products to have him order for the best price--I don't want to scare him off by telling him he has to buy a ton of stuff to take care of his car. I also want to keep things simple, as he has never had any experience in taking care of a car before. Anyway, this is what I was thinking of having him buy: Megs Clay kit (OTC and he can buy their Quick Detailer as he needs for lube) Collinite 845, it looks good and lasts a long time Not sure on applicator pads? Not sure on microfiber? I like my Chemical Guys ones but I would love if he could buy it all from one place. There's a bunch of stuff I've learned in the one year since I've found this site and started detailing, but I want to work with him one step at a time. Everything that we do to try to keep our cars perfect tends to be overwhelming at first and I don't want to scare him off. Since it's winter I thought claying, waxing and paint protection would be a good place to start as there is no protection on his paint now, and he's really good about keeping the interior clean. Anyway...the issue I'm having is finding a place that carries all of these things. Do you know of any online stores that carry all of the things I listed, or a good equivalent to them at least? Just off the top of your heads, as I know it's not that hard to search a few detailing sites so I'll be doing that myself as well. Also, anything else that you would suggest me have him buy? I'm still fairly new at detailing and am learning new stuff every day, so I might be missing something quite important for all I know Thanks for the help, Clark EDIT. Just 'cos I feel like it, here's the car in question:
I would take a trip to eShine.ca and grab some Collinite 845, the El Cheapo micro fiber ( get a few, like 3-4) @ $2.85 it's worht it. Get some of the small packages of clay and the 8 oz. bottle of ONR. As for applicator pads, just take a trip to autozone and grab some. He's going to be looking at about: ..$16.49 for Collinite 845 ..$11.40 for 4 El Cheapo Micro Fibers ..$ 8.79 for the 8 oz. of ONR +$ 7.69 for 4 oz. of the Riccardo Blue clay $44.37 + shipping. That's a pretty nice starting kit. Good job getting him to take care of his car though! :thumb:
Sounds good, I'll be looking into that, thanks! For clay I'll probably just have him pick up the Megs kit OTC though, about the same price and really easy to start out with. I think it's already starting to overwhelm him. One question though, eShine.ca has everything in Cdn not USD...is there much of a difference? I haven't ordered from them before so I wouldn't know. I can talk to him about ONR but I think that may be a bit much for now. If I could have it my way I'd have him getting a grit guard and ONR and some 303 Aerospace Protectant and something to polish his wheels and a good wheel cleaner and glass cleaner and an APC and a leather conditioner...at least that's what I would do if it were my car.
Well, both Dollars are almost at exact parity right now, so there won't be much difference. The only reason why I suggest ONR, is that while the same price over all, it will give him MUCH more clay lube than a simple detailer from the Megs/Mothers kit.
That's true. I'll see what he would rather do, I just know that once you start talking about dilutions and mixing you lose some people...
He can get quite a few things at Walmart and Pepboys locally that are decent to good. The other items are worth purchasing online and are not expensive. Items at Walmart 1. Autoglym High Definition Wax they might still have it on sale for $20 2. Autoglym Perfect Palm 3. Meguiars or Mother Clay kit, I like the Mother clay kit its better you get 160 grams instead of 100 grams and a better microfiber as well. Items at Pepboys 1. Autoglym bodywork shampoo and conditoner 2. Autoglym Super Resin Polish its an AIO product that you can top AG HD over and it very easy to use 3. Autoglym Rapid Detailer 4. Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber care 5. Gallon of Simple Green as your APC just use the 1:10 for exterior and 1:30 for interior Online Purchases microfiber, microfiber towels, car care products, auto detailing, house cleaning, micro-restore, micro restore, df towels, microfiber MONSTER MICROFIBER JUMBO ABSORBER Grit Guard Bucket Insert you need 2 grit guards Autowerkes Exclusive :: RaceGlaze Deep Pile Natural Sheepskin Washmitt :: 2008 :: Shop Microfiber Drying Towel Autowerkes Exclusive :: Raceglaze XL Wheel Brush :: 2008 :: Shop Best Cleaner for Microfiber
