so once upon a time or tonight I decided to change my washer fluid to a blend of 1z anti frost first up, i tried to flush it out by pressing the washer button. to my surprise the darn reservoir doesnt have a dip stick or a stray or anything I can tell how much is left. So I just pressed and pressed and my garage now has citrus smell to it and mercedes washer nozzles are godly as seen below: even my other car had washer fluid all over. So yeah I decided to give up clearing it cuz it seemed never ending so I went and grabbed my 1z antifrost which I then saw my krystal klarr sample. So I figured i might aswell throw that in as well. So i did and added water till it topped up. Then I went to try and spray a bit again and to my surprise it failed. The hood was down so I decided to drive out and see if it'll work. To my surpise the dash turned red and i was like WAH OSHT I BROKE THE WASHER but luckily it said your hood is not closed (smart benz smart) So i pop it open and my neighbour thought i rammed into his car. then viola it worked again. So i went and drove back into the garage and opened the door and press the washer and to my surprise i got shot by it. So yeah I then went and grabbed the anti frost and threw in like 1/2 a bottle into the reservoir just for shits n giggles and added water. So now my mercedes is officially rated at atleast -8 degrees c i would assume YEAH with the bottle i then topped my mazda which actually had a straw, it only took like 1/20th of the bottle tho cuz it still had like 1/5th of the straw (the reservoir is so small). I nearly topped my coolant with antifrost as well cuz it looked blue like the anti frost lol so in the end heres whats left: and I have 3 more bottles and my wet jeans from doing this SO a lesson learnt, next time I will not press the washer button unless im inside with the door closed and i will not do it in my garage and at night. but yeah they really should make a damn drain for us to use the good shiz, but atleast now I will be able to go up to the snowy mountains and see. oh and are all windshield fluids suppose to smell citrusy lol cuz this mb summerfit really might be a krystal klarr diluted lol
You really would think there would be a way to flush washer fluid huh? Ze Germans didn't think of everything as this was a similar case that I had earlier this season. And to answer your question - I believe the fluids generally are scented - I believe it somehow links to the HVAC ductwork - but someone else will probably chime in with more on that.
I remember when we bought my fiancé's VW TDI last year, and I first sprayed the washer fluid. It made her whole car smell like vanilla.
I was hoping your were going to do a review 1z anti frost. I remembered you made the plunge and bought a few bottles of it before christmas... If you have the time and you can add the 1z by itself or if it is supposed to be diluted can you give a full review without spraying yourself
i had to wait til a rainstorm came a few months ago to "purge" my GTI's reservoir. i waited til the rain got real heavy, and just pulled the car out and held the windshield washer stick back for what seemed to be over ten minutes. that thing holds over a gallon, easy, because i mixed at a ratio that made just about a gallon of solution if i remember correctly, and i used every bit of it and still didnt fill my reservoir.
I am pretty sure that unleashing a lot of washer fluid onto your vehicle is not a good idea because the stuff strips wax in large quantities. Why didn't you just use your windshield washers as you normally would until you just ran out, and then refill with the 1Z stuffs.
thankfully im using a sealant which should be more durable against the low % alcohol in washerfluids. If it strips, i'll just apply again lol but yeah i still have 3 bottles so there will be a time i can truly review it purely with the antifrost but at the moment it should still be a good representation since its suppose to be diluted anyways =p also it was a sudden urge to do it so i didnt wait for the weather lol I'll look into depleting my mazda's reservoir since its relatively a lot smaller and use the antifrost solution sometime. If it goes straight, itll do -70C so i'll be mixing at 1:3~4 ish to get to -9c which we dont reach either lol
If you can access the pump (usually on the bottom), you can just remove it and that will allow the tank to drain. Most just pull out of a grommet with no tools. As far as high alcohol solutions stripping don't fret. The alcohol may break the bond but the wax will readhere as long as it's not wiped while it's wet.
Chris sorry can you explain to a layman "The alcohol may break the bond but the wax will readhere as long as it's not wiped while it's wet." thx, Howard
Waxes and sealants are applied with solvents. As the solvent evaporates, the product remains. Being a solvent, alcohol may briefly break the bond, but it has such a quick flash time that unless you wipe it while it's wet your wax will just re-adhere...that is if the alcohol was even there long enough to break the bond to begin with.
the reason you get the smell of the washer fluid in your car is because most have the washer jets sitting right above the cabin air filter
