    Hi all,

I have lurked for a while and wanted to reach out for some help. I have a 2003 Honda Accord that is having some wicked paint issues. You'll see in the pictures below that my trunk has major swirls and it looks cloudy. The issue seems to be spreading and going down the sidepanels next to my trunk. Currently I have Autoglym HD on the car. I have tried nufinish scratch doctor and turtle wax scratch and swirl(both by hand with a cheapo microfiber towel) but neither have worked well and may have actually hurt the paint. So, what do you think would be my best course of action? I want to be able to do it myself.

    Thanks!

    Here are the pictures:

Machine polishing will for sure help get rid of that. Looks like the paint is severely scratched and makes it look cloudy as the sun hits it. If you do not have a polisher on hand than there are a few products that can easily help reduce the appearance of those scratches but not get rid of them completely. I would take a look at the Prima line if I were you. Hydro, Amigo, Banana Gloss and Epic all help hide/fill in swirls and scratches.

It is important that you also pick up a few higher quality microfibers. And make sure when you do touch your paint with them that you use as little pressure.

Also in the first pic it looks like there is a haze on the paint. Did you apply HD wax thick?

I did apply megs liquid gold class to the trunk too thick and accidentally allowed it to dry.(yea I know it was dumb) After trying to get it off for a while I gave up and washed the car a day later with dawn(idk the effectiveness of just using dawn the car still beaded) and waxed it again. I had major swirls before that but I don't know about the haze.

If you look at the last picture it looks like I made circles where I waxed between the roof and the windows consistent with the trunk...I really don't know what caused it.

I like the kit but its price range is kinda high can I get away with getting rid of some things in it?

yes, you are going to have to get into the machine aspect of this repair, but as noted there are some good inexpensive OTC products to use with it.
Its going to be in the 240.00 range, polisher, pads and polish to fix this at the bare minimum.

I will be getting a polisher soon. So what would be better Prima Swirl or Megs Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish?

Also, I need something to get wax off the car and bugs would Megs APC+ be good for this? Zep Citrus? or should I use IPA 50:50?

I would go with menzerna polishes from the start. You really can't do to much damage with the PC. Also for starting out a
Adams polishes are non abrasive so that might be good to learn with. Check the items for sale on this forum and you can find some really good deals to save some cash.

Meg's APC will work great. As for what polish to use you wouldn't go wrong with Menz PF or Prima.

Bump for an older thread. But looking at this finish it looks kinda like your clear coat is failing.

If that is the case, heavy correcting may do more harm than good. You may end up exposing the paint if you are not careful.

I know this because my fiancee's car looked similar and after a friend corrected it (before I became knowledgeable) the paint has been exposed.

I know this is bringing a dead thread back from the past but wow I wish I had read this before. My car now definitely looks like the clear is failing after a rough machine polish at a hack shop. Thanks for your help everyone...time for me to get a good glaze and wax it and leave it be I suppose.

Yeah - I know what you mean.

I had a detailer tell me the best way to aid the situation is to get some moisture back into the paint - he recommended using a glaze and of course sealing up the glaze with wax or sealant.

M3Ride you can see pics of my car now in my thread titled something about knowing how much paint is left.
