I was looking for a wax thats super durable that can hold up to new england winters? I know the salt is not friendly to wax at all, but what wax would you guys recommend? I was thinking maybe powerlock then topping with maybe collinate 845/476.
I think you would just be wasting your time putting down Powerlock underneath the Collinites. Either one of them is as much, or more durable. You would be better off either sticking with just Powerlock or using Collinite instead.
I dont have to much experience with nano coatings. Can they be topped with a wax for a deeper glossy look? or just used as the LSP? thanks
Do not top coatings. Aquartz - you can top with Reload Body Wrap - you can maintain with Wolf's Nano Quick Detailer
Phil - from your experience is it alright to use spray wax on coatings? Like Prima Hydro (just ordered today).
Northeast Auto Salon - Greetings from a Northwest Auto Detailer ! I personally like the look and durability of Menzerna Powerlock that is cured, and topped with Collinite 476S Super Double Coat Auto Wax. Now, we dont use salt here (too many hairy-legged-birkenstock-wearing-tree-huggers), but we use a lot of sand, and this sealant/wax combo seems to go just fine here. My '09 Black Grand Cherokee wears this every winter and the paint looks great in the Spring. I also apply this combo on a lot of my Client's vehicles, especially the ones that remain outside all winter, etc... I'm still on the fence regarding the newest Nano coatings; they look promising and all, mind you, but looking at their pics, they dont look all that glossy to me, so maybe that is the trade off? Protection of your paint, but not as glossy as the traditional polymer sealants, etc.. ?? Good luck with your project, Dan F
FK1000p is a hard shell wax. A few layers should get you through a winter no problem. No need to wait 12-24 hrs to layer either. It is tough enough that alot of the DW members swear by using it as a wheel sealant.
