I am going to be spraying my new garage this week and my initial reaction was to get a paint that is as white and as glossy as possible to improve reflection of light. What have you guys found is the best type of paint to use in a garage where detailing will occur? Will the higher gloss paints show off any imperfections in the sheetrock taping/mud and framing irregularities? TIA
Are you going to texture your walls and ceiling? If not, you'll likely regret it as the walls/ceiling will not look uniform; finished the inside of your garage like you would a room in your house. I've used bright gloss white and it is usually categorized under industrial as most people do not do use straight whites. If you want the best job rent a commercial grade paint sprayer, mask and tape all the areas to be unpainted, purchase five gallons paint buckets.
"Will the higher gloss paints show off any imperfections in the sheetrock taping/mud and framing irregularities?" Yes, the glossier the paint finish, the more any imperfections will be visible, especially if the walls are not textured. If you can totally install, mud/tape the drywall so perfectly, then you are truly the Masta' This is why they invented texture and flat finishes. I personally have bright white flat paint in my garage and dont have any trouble seeing stuff. I am not sure I would want a glossy paint that reflects light into my eyes as well as the vehicle/s in the garage. Have you looked at pictures or seen a glossy, shiny, garage walled garage already? Good luck with this ! Dan F
Thanks all. Read up a bit on a garage forum and they agree with the sentiment here...gloss is a bad idea.
