Some of you ladies and gents have asked for a review so here's my take. Dodo Juice Purple Haze is marketed as a "soft wax" which is supposed to be easy to spread and soft enough to apply by hand. It's also designed for dark colored cars. You can't get much darker than metallic black. I'd say it lives up to that. I'm not ready to apply wax by hand so my weapon of choice was a brand new LC 4" CCS Red foam applicator. Purple Haze went on very easy and buffing off was a breeze. There was very little dusting. I like that. It smells a bit like a classy after shave. Reminds me of a close friend of mine. The wax itself is purple (see pictures). The jar is made of glass and you know it's in your hands. I've worked with other paste waxes and the jars don't feel this substantial. This isn't a bad thing. It's like you know you paid for something that was well thought out. I can't speak about durability yet. It was supposed to rain here today, but all I've seen are clouds. I'm really impressed with how well you can see the metallic parts of my paint now. Some of the other waxes muted the metal flakes a bit. My initial reaction is that I did not waste my money. I'm pleased with the way the wax has performed so far. I will do an update in a couple of weeks as far as durability goes. On a scale of 1-5 I'd give it a 4. Blue Velvet is marketed as a hard wax. Indeed it was a bit harder to apply than Purple Haze, but no worse than some of the other paste waxes I've used. Removal was very easy. Guess that has to do with just how thin the layer was that I applied. Blue Velvet is supposed to be a bit more durable than Purple Haze, but again after just 1 day I can't say if I have experienced that or not. I applied Blue Velvet with an LC 4" Red CCS pad as well. I did layer the waxes to see what effect they would have working together. Sort of like how the Double Wax is supposed to work. Blue Velvet has a bit of a fruity smell to it. It's a very subtle smell nothing overwhelming at all. For someone with allergies like mine that's a good thing. Again I haven't seen the metal flakes so vibrant in a very long time. My bumper has some serious road time on it and I was really impressed at how it looks now. On a scale of 1-4 I'd give it a 4 as well. I'm still feeling a bit of sticker shock. I didn't think I'd spend so much on wax. Oh well it was worth the investment.
Calgary has group buy going for it at 180 dollars for the full size pot or 26 dollars for the sample size.
Thank you and it was certainly my pleasure. I may have some beading pictures in the morning. It's trying to rain here tonight.
What's the deal with Dodo? Is it the price? How they hype it up? Or is it officially a kick-azz wax that belongs in every little detailer's collection ??
