Good question pirex as I found out purchasing lens localy is not cheap and they will never find deals like you will on line. The only concern that I would have about purhcasing on line is if something goes wrong with your lens the advantage of purchasing localy is that you just drive up to the store you purchased and they will either swap the lens for a brand new one or they will take care of the warranty work for you...well at least that's what the store I went to will do...but seems like you pay for such service. So if any one has more information about warranty or has had any experiance with online stores and there return/warranty policy please share as I'm very curious about that. Sorry pirex, don't mean to steal your thread buddy, but I think your question is a very good question :thumb:
No problem Nica! Good question you came with there to. Its your fault that I am now looking for a new lens or two Maybe a flash also?
actually all beause of Nica's fault... I was drooling over some new lens last night too... Anywho... the ones I've heard of and others have good comments about are the two which brianja mentioned. However, if you're looking for Nikon branded lens, you might want to buy them from you local authorized dealer. Nikon seems to be quite picky about their warranty work. I'm not sure about other brands', such as Sigma, warranty policy. In my case, I live in Canada. Say if I bought a lens from a non-authorized Nikon Canada dealer, Nikon Canada will not do any warranty work on it apparently. For me, I'm all for supporting local businesses as far as camera equipment goes. I take up their time to browse their products, I should buy from them as well. I suppose if the price difference is very significant or if it is a supply issue, then I might consider buying elsewhere.
Man lenses are just as bad as wax wow...so many too choose from and they all do/give different effects it's wicked :wicked: Oh yes I've been reading up on some flash's too, so far the Cannon looks like the winner to me but not sure just yet. I first need to learn about there effects and what there purpose is...boy who knew takign pictures could be so complicated but it's fun learning :cheerl: :sorry: my bad but going to a camera store is incredable, I was :druling: at the cameras they had..and the row of lenses :druling: :druling: Looks like I got my self another collection to start :woo: I agree with you about supporting local businesses but to be honest these lenses aren't cheap and if anything goes wrong with it I want to make sure I can just get in my car and take it down to the store I bought it and have them deal with it. With regards to the Nikon and the warranty yes I was told that some company's are quite picky with there polisies, with the Sigma I got I was told they (the store I purchased the lens at) would take care of any warranty or any issues I have with the lens. So for me I thought it was worth it...but that's just me though
BH Photo and Adorama are good reputable online stores. I've bought from eBay, but only from users with 100% feedback. Just don't buy from online retailers that offer "too good to be true" deals because often time, they are. Do you homework on the store through resellerratings.com.
2nd. resellerratings.com is a great resource. Most of the place online with awesome pricing are scams. B&H and Adorama are good, reputable shops. I buy most of my stuff from them in-store (they are both local to me). This helps with ease of returns, exchanges, etc.. I would not, however, hesitate to make an online purchase from them. Just don't do it on a Saturday
I just bought a Canon 40D with the 28-135mm IS lens from B&H and I was VERY pleased with the purchase!!! Just got here two days ago, very well packed and even got a phone call letting me know it was about to be shipped.
This B&H sounds like an interesting store  thank you guys for sharing. So P1et um..where are the pictures of the 40D :waiting:
Haha! I got this from B&H for my dad's birthday. What a camera compared to my now very little looking Rebel XT!!! It's a beast!!! That lens is most excellent as well... Bottom pic is with my 430EX on there.
I've bought several items (over a thousand $'s worth) from B&H and have always been pleased with them and the products. B&H Photo Video | Digital Cameras, Camcorders
Hey P1et that's the flash I'll be purchasing soon...I think..it looks like the one I've been reading up on. Any who yes the 40D is a lovely camera :druling: :druling: and that lens is very nice :cheerl: :cheerl: Thank you for sharing with us eace:
