I am new to detailing. I was doing a test spot on a dark grey Volvo with my PC and orange pad with Menzerna Intensive Polish. I think I was doing everthing right (speed 5, moving slowly, breaking the polish down until it turns clear) but the fine little scratches would not come out. I tried to take a picture but they didn't show up on the camera. Can anyone help me figure out what I'm doing wrong?

idk how hard the clear coat is but you may not have a strong enough pad/polish combo.

When using the pc it will probably take you several passes to remove defects and sometimes you will need the power of the rotary to get the finish were you want it.

Hard to say what went wrong but there are a few things that come to mind. I know that with the PC, it can take a wile to break down the polish properly so there is a chance that you weren't breaking the polish down properl...but by the description you mentioned sounds like you did it right. The other thing is that you may need to follow up the SIP with a final poilish and a finishing pad, perhaps the orange pad combo is a bit too aggresive and it's leaving some fine micro marring, again just a thought.

Just a few things that come to mind that's all :peace:

Some clears are very hard, especially GM. I have done 2 this summer that I had to really lean into it and that was with a rotary and wool. A PC and foam may not be enough for you.

GM has very hard clear coats. My Yukon is a PITA and my sister has a Aura she's had it about a year came back from college Last weekend and i went to detail it not one scratch/swirl. She's never been to a carwash or washed it.

Along with the above replies, you should set the PC to speed 6. Speed 6 is really the only speed where you can accomplish some correction.
