So yesterday I was a little bothered by the condition of our shower doors in one of the bathrooms at my parents house. So, instead of polishing cars... Yeah, you guessed it, I polished the shower doors. They were pretty nasty and you could hardly see through them at all. Anyway, my process was as follows: Started with the PC and a Propel 7" green polishing foam pad and PB's SSR 2.5 Moved up to a Propel 7" yellow cutting foam pad and PB's SSR 2.5 After realizing that my process wasn't cutting fast enough, I moved up to an Excel Erasure 4" green polishing foam pad and PB's SSR 2.5 Again moved up to something stronger, an Excel Erasure 4" white polishing foam pad and PB's SSR 2.5 Yet again moved to something stronger, Excel Erasure 4" yellow cutting foam pad and PB's SSR 2.5 I really still wasn't satisfied so I tried the Metabo and the LC PFW with SIP, M105, and M105/OC 75/25 mixture as separate applications. Unfortunately, they were all too grabby on the glass. So in the end, my process came down to using the PC and the Excel Erasure 4" yellow cutting foam pad and PB's SSR 2.5. Finished the glass with the PC and a LC 6.5" blue finishing pad and PB's SSR 1 Protected the glass with one application of Optimum Car Wax The entire process took quite some time. I started in the morning at about 9:30am or so and didn't finish until 4:30pm or so. Keep in mind that I took a few breaks to rest, read Autopia and DB forums, eat lunch and snacked/drank to feed/hydrate myself. The results were by no means to our standards but it was DEFINITELY better than what it looked like before. :headbang: Some before pictures: Blue-Taped Side for Half-Half Comparison Half-Half Shots After Shots! Oh, I also did Automotive Prep Clean wipe downs every once in a while during the entire process. More importantly, I did a final wipe down right before the application of OCW. This was purchased from NAPA Auto Parts for around $7.xx. The outside glass was cleaned with some other brand of glass cleaner I found under one of the bathroom sinks. It worked pretty well IMO. Please forgive me for the blurry pictures. I need to work on my point-and-shoot skills hehe.
Dude, that's a world of difference!!! Got's me thinking about doing my shower doors now with the Flex 3401 and some Menzerna. Good stuff!!!
How to get a man to clean the bathroom...don't forget to buff the floor, the vanity, and the toilet bowl :grin
I think you did a great job man, it's definitely up to our standards. I contemplated doing this at home and now I'm glad someone else has ran the whole scientific method for me. Now if I catch you polishing the toilet... you might need help haha.
Great job but CLR or Vinegar would've done the same thing in a less consuming manner. I deal with very hard water where I'm located.
Thats awesome man. HAHA that soap scum thought it had a nice safe permanent home...........until you brought out the buffers! Nice job man
For those of you asking if I thought about using CLR, I'm perfectly aware that CLR would have taken care of the job. C'mon, I know better. Besides, would this even be thread-worthy if it was about me cleaning my shower doors with CLR? I highly doubt it. :giggle: This was just a fun project to do to see what kind of results would come of this. :
Hey, you never know. I've met some folks with no common sense in my life. You never know.....I've seen some unusual threads before. Good job!:thumb:
Well if you're doing it for fun, then go nuts. I was more asking a question about if it was necessary to do what you did, cause i keep hearing to use the least aggressive method, basically just wondering if it would have done the same job without all the extra work. My appologies if you took it the wrong way
No, no offense taken and I apologize if my statement seemed harsh, LoL. I only considered doing this since I haven't seen anyone else do it. : However, I do know that there was a forum member that polished his wine cooler/refrigerator but I can't quite remember who it was off the top of my head. :shead:
looks good..... i have taken my buffer to more than my share of household items and bring detailing products into the hose all the time.... my wife thinks i am nuts when i wax our shower with Colli....i will take pics next time.... if any ofyou have Corian counters that are crappy try wetsand and ppolish on them...works awesome..... i use MF towels for everything around the house....
I have used clay on our shower glass with clay lube to remove hard water marks and it is fast and very effective. Give it a try before the other steps and I think you will be impressed with the results. Good job by the way. Cheers. G
