Well sorry for the delay on this review but finally had a chance to post the review. First of all here is how I pamper my Metabo: The box is quite dirty, I've been putting the Metabo to good use and the box has done a great job at protecting my baby :thumb: Well here it is  Here is the 75mm backing plate I ordered a wile back with the adaptor I had made. Here is the new backing plate, 50mm and the 75mm, as you can see the size of the new backing plate is quite significant. Here is the yellow backing plate and the new gray backing plate :thumb: A closer look at the two backing plates. Here is the gray backing plate on the Metabo and yes they are 5/8th threads, meaning I don't need to use the adaptor on my rotary :thumb: Here is the yellow 3M UK backing plate, it takes quite a bit of effort to squeeze the foam the gray 3M UK backing plate on the other hand is much easier to squeeze. You'll see what I mean shortly. Here is how the adaptor looks on my Metabo The small backing plate, with the adaptor on the Metabo. Here are the variety of backing plates I now cary with me, I should be prepared for any type of vehicle and with any type of curves or tight areas. Here is a video I did to better show the difference between all these backing plates (if for some reason the video doesn't load or you can't view it please let me know): www.detailingbliss.com/downloads/desktops/backingplatereviews/backingplatereview.mov Now I washed the Volvo with the ONR system and used the yellow drying towel from Rubbish Boy and this towel is not only extremely soft but it does a great job at drying the vehicle: I really like the soft feel and this towel is very thick, it absorbed all the water from the ONR. The only thing I noticed from the towel was that it did leave a bit of lint on the vehicle...but this may have been because prior to using the towel I didn't wash the towel..but like I said it was the first time I used the towel, I will keep an eye on this but it really didn't bother me, I was quite pleased with how soft it is and that it absorbed all the water from the ONR. Next, I've been itching to apply a coat of Crystal Rock on the Volvo and finally did. I let the wax bond to the surface of the vehicle for over 30min and to buff it off I used the blue towel from Rubbish Boy: Now the towel is really thick and really soft. I was a bit worried about how thick it was and how soft because in the past I have used thick towels and they wouldn't do a good job at removing the wax. This towel on the other hand buffed off the wax extremely well and little effort was applied to buff the wax off. Now if your thinking I'm exaggerating on how thick the towel is take a look at this picture, I folded the towel like I would normally fold the Cookie Monster from eShine and this is how it looked: By folding it this way it was a bit odd to buff off the wax but even then it still did a good job at buffing off the wax. I'll be ordering a few more of both towels as I'm very impressed with them, I just love the soft feeling from both towels. Hope you enjoyed the review :thumb:
They felt like a single ply...not stitched together but to be honest I don't know, hopefully Ben will chime in and answer that Chris.
for a quick second i was hoping to see the smaller BP in action oh well you owes another one..lol.. from the pic the blue MF looks real nice towel.. thanks for the review :thumb:
Click on the video joe, it shows both the gray 3M UK backing plate and the small backing plate in action
Great review I need to get an adaptor and a smaller backing plate for myself. The towels look promising and might order some for myself.
Great review Carlos and now I'm kicking myself for not getting some of those towels in my Rubbish Boys order.:duh:
Real good review. Learn something new every day. I don't have to much nohow on those backing plates yet...Thanks...:thumb:
I like both towels, specially the drying towel. I've always wanted a towel like that, I don't mind the waffle weaved towels but I like the soft feel of this drying towel. As for the blue towel, it's wicked for buffing off wax and has a very soft feeling to it. To be honest I was a bit hesitant with the drying towel, but figured I'd get one just for kicks, Ben was kind enough to throw the towel in my order and now I'll have to get a few more :thumb: These 3M UK backing plates are completely different compared to anything the US and Canada has to offer, they have a completely different feel and much better control. What really impresses me is how the 3M UK backing plates distribute pressure through out the entire pad. This makes a huge difference around edges, edges can be quite tricky but these pads help out along edges. Once you try one you'll understand the big hype about them...it's hard to describe how they feel.
Nice job with the home made case Nica, i'll have to make one of my own, but i don't think i'll name Lola, probably something different, lol jk. That adapter you made looks longer than probably needed, is that as short as you could make it? would it work better a little shorter? either way good job...
Oh yea..my sexy lola and I have loads of memories together. Guess why I named her Lola...well I'll tell you. The Metabo melts in your hands when you use it and I enjoy it's curves...from the first time I used it the only name that popped in my head was Lola..the name Lola to me, inspires curves, sexy..ect..ect..but that's just me though  :crasy:
See I thought the same thing when I replicated the spindle extension from the Metabo but to be honest the extra height comes in handy from time to time, I personally prefer it the length it is...but I could try doing a shorter one...I'm not sure how much shorter I would be able to get it though  well no harm on trying :thumb: I'll run it by the guys at the shop and see if they can come up with something for me.
Glad you enjoyed it P1et..as for full size pics of the Volvo, I didn't take any I just used it as the testing mule. The wife drives the Volvo and she was very impressed with Crystal Rock, makes the forest green look very wet :thumb:
Well the reason i'm wondering if it could be shorter is because i think it would be a little unstable and maybe wobbley the farther it would be from a panel, i just figured it would be a little hard to control... report back if you can make a shorter one, i'd be interested to see if it would be easier to use..:applause2:
