Ok, we are getting ready to upgrade our tv, right now we currently have a 42 inch. I'm wanting to upgrade to a 50 inch flatscreen.

I'm can't decide if I want to go with an LCD or a Plasma. Our living room is pretty bright and I've heard the Plasmas don't look so great in brighter rooms. Lately, I've been hearing that this has changed.

Also, I've been going back and forth between a Panasonic and a Pioneer. I've read that the Panasonic is the best bang for the buck. Is there really that much difference between the Panasonic and the Pioneer?

I want to get some feedback from you guys! Thanks!

I always thought that LCD's had the slight advantage in smaller sizes such as like a 32, and Plasma has it in bigger. Be careful, you can't rotate plasmas or it'll mess up the screen.

When I was looking for a new flat screen. I was also looking at the Pioneer. I went to tweeter and they actually suggested the Samsung. Well I asked if they could put various brands next to the Samsung, and this is coming from a diehard Sony person, the Samsung by far had the best picture. I got the Samsung 63 inch, and it blows away the two Sony 52 inch tv's that have. I was like you and read about all the brands, got other peoples opinions about what they thought of their tv's and when I finally got a chance to get them all side by side the Samsung won out, plus you get alot of tv for the buck.

I've got a DLP tv (52 toshiba)in my living room and a LCD (37) Toshiba in my bedroom. Both are nice. If I had to pick between Plasma and LCD, I'd go with LCD.

Another Samsung guy here. It took me a 1yr to finally decide after all the research I did and wound up buying the Samsung LN46A650 touch of color 46". The picture is absolutely stunning!
Make sure that when you decide check out Amazon.com for the same tv.

The ones on this list might be worth considering. LCD TV Buying Guide: LCD TV Reviews and Buying Advice, Find the Best LCD Television I have had good success with the Sharp LCDs. Also, note that a lot of stores have the color correction all wrong and normally most stuff is over saturated.

I haven't tested the Samsung LCDs but when I tested the Samsung plasma vs the Panasonic, I couldn't get the Samsung anywhere close to being correct with a colour spectrometer.

Thats about how long for me to decide after all the research and deciding whether or not I needed another big screen. I am glad I made the purchase, it works very well in my bedroom.

I spent way too much time learning about TV's before I bought mine. I ended up with a Samsung plasma and love it. A friend of mine did high end home theater installs till the economy went to crap. He suggested Pioneer. For the price difference I like my Sammy just fine. The Pioneer will get deeper blacks but I don't think mine is that bad. Also I went with the plasma since I use it for gaming too. The motion blur on the LCD's killed me. Don't worry about image burn in on plasmas, it's the thing of the past. I've played the same game with my buddy for 6 hours and didn't have a problem. I used a break in DVD for the first 50-75 hours to be safe.

Don't get too stressed out about it. Buy what looks good to you and enjoy!

Pioneer's and Sony's are on the pricey side and you won't really notice a large difference between those two and Samsung's and Panasonic's. Samsung's and Panasonic's are really the best in the flat screen market due to their price and performance as proven by many reviews.

Generally plasma tv's are ideal for screens 50" and larger while LCD's are more beneficial in anything less than 50". You also might want to consider your viewing distance. There's actually a formula to follow in order to achieve optimal viewing distance with your size of tv. To find this magical number (viewing distance), you multiply your tv size by 2.5 and then divide that number by 12 to get your measurement in feet.

For example, a 50" flat screen multiplied by 2.5 would give you 125". Divide that number by 12 and you get ~10.42'. So when viewing a 50" flat screen tv with a distance smaller than ~10.42', it's quite possible your peripheral vision may not see the edges of your tv. It may be a concern to some of us and not so much to the rest of us but I certainly like to enjoy the full viewing pleasure. :)

i would always chose LCD over plasma BUT, for a large screen, DLP is the best bang for buck. i have a Mitsu 62" 1080i TV for $1,600 and the picture is awesome for a DLP.

another thing to look for is response time and refresh rate/processing rate.

response time is the "delay" between pushing a button on the remote and seeing the result on the screen, this is exaggerated when playing video games on TV's with a 5ms or longer response time.... 2ms is ideal.

if you can afford it, a 120Hz or greater(240-480Hz) processing/refresh rate pretty much gets rid of any motion blur and makes the screen very close to what the director sees on this screen during filming.

im sure the refresh rate on my DLP is around 7-10ms cause playing games is unbearable, which is why i only use this TV for my favorite shows and movies only

Actually Grey, I think your definition of response time is different than what is commonly known in the industry. Here is what Wikipedia has to say.

I have a Sony bravia 32" in the bedroom and a Sony XBR 60" in the living room Both LCD"s

You might want to look closer at the DLP's if you want to buy one. I have a friend the owns a small tv store and the DLP's is NOT a proven format yet. Just so you know. So I went with the LCD's Samsung have been having problems with theres and look at who else is making DLP's ??? Also Plasma tv's are not standing the test of time. Sony does not make them anymore.

As far as glare one is not better that the other. So my friend tells me... I hope this helps

I have a samsung LCD, I was told that LCD is better because it will last longer. I can't complain with the picture as its perfect with my HD receiver.

After reading many reviews and looking at a ton of tv's I went with a 52 inch Samsung 1080p LCD. I'm more than happy with the picture quality, it is awesome!

I figured since my living room was so bright, the LCD was the way to go. I ended up getting a new Samsung Blue Ray system as well, the picture quality and graphics is unbelievable with the combo.

:applause2:Congrats! You made a very smart purchase with the Sammy. Make sure you check for any software updates for your tv from their website. You can check to see if you have the latest through your menu screen.
