as i look around on the forum here i notice that there appears to be a lack of threads about random orbitals. Being an 18 year old kid, i understand that i dont know half what you guys do, and i see that you seem to prefer rotary buffers, which scare the crap out of me. I use one of the griots random orbitals and i really like it, does anybody here use one? or one like it? if so does anybody have any good tips for using one? I love mine and i usually use the griots orange pad and their polishes, sometimes i use some meguiars mirror glaze show car glaze too, any tips would be greatly appreciated since im sure you guys know alot more about this detailing business than i do, despite my attitude of "I am the car cleaning wizard" with my car buddies around home.:help:

I use a PC and I have yet to encounter a car that needs anything more than my polish+4inch pads setup :thumb:

A tip I can give you is never give up or be scared of the machine. Its pretty much idiot proof :thumb:

I have a PC, Rotory and a Flex. If I could do it all over again. I would have just a Flex and a rotory for heavy work. Even thought the Flex can do it the rotory is much faster. The Flex puts my PC to shame. But the PC was first because I was fearful. The Flex is idoit proof too!

Jag, I too started out with all Griot's products. I almost always use a rotary now. I would get a cheap rotary at Harbor Freight and practice on a junk yard hood. You will get use to it, then you will love it. Then when you can't live without it, buy a good quality machine.
PS I have bottles of machine polish laying around;-)

Well scottieB if you ever feel the need to get rid of that wonderful machine polish feel free to shoot me a PM and we can discuss someting. I think i'd like to get a rotary sometime soon, just to figure out if i can get good with it and not screw up paint.

Scottie has a good point. Get yourself a cheap rotary and practice with it. A rotary is very effective at low speeds. I very rarely run my rotary at speeds over 1200 rpm. Sometimes I go crazy and rip it up to 1500 rpm!!!!! Seriously though, with the Menz polishes, you can do some serious correction with SIP and a green pad at 1200 rpm. This combo will result in next to no heat at all as well. Follow up with PO85RD on a black pad and you're set. I honestly don't see the need for a random orbital other than to apply wax if you're so inclined. Just keep the speed down and be careful with your pad/polish selection.

I have the pc 7424, griots 6" da and rotary. I am still new with rotary and use it with wool for serious correction. I almost always use the griots, I have 4" pads on my pc for small panels.
