Hey guys, black friday is coming around the corner! Some of you guys might be interested in a shopvac.

Home depot will have a Rigid 9gal 3.5HP for $25+tax.

Go here and download the pdf: LINK

I just bought a craftsman 9gal 4HP vac from sears for $40, don't know if I should return it and get the Rigid or keep it. Will that extra .5HP for $15 be worth it?

    Feedback appreciated!

I think I'm going to return my craftsman and get this rigid then. .5HP less but its a lot cheaper

I'm only guessing, but shouldn't the minimum HP for a detailer be 5 HP? I'm thinking about the power necessary to 'extract' wet carpet and seats.

Honestly the horsepower rating on alot of vacuums and compressors are nearly meaningless. It depends on whether the advertiser slaps on the peak value, or what it uses while running etc..

For example, that vac advertises 3.5 peak horsepower but since it draws 9 amps @ 120 V the actually running horsepower would be (120Volts*9Amps)=1080Watts*(1hp/746 Watts)=~1.45hp. The most you'll ever get out of a standard 15amp circuit would be about 2.4hp and that's assuming 100% efficiency for the motor.

WOW! Thanks for the info. I'm looking to purchase another vac. The one I have the moter is starting to hum when it slows down. I guess thats a sign it's about to go. I hate to be in the middle of a job and a piece of equipment stops. Sucks! Any good suggestions for a good ,light compact vac that is good for detailing. I'm researching a good strong one,it does not have to be cheap either!

AGREE - You are so right. If you had a 5 horse power vacuum for real. never mind the electricity you would have to install. You wouldn't be able to lift the dam thing...This is true...:yikes:

Wish I had a suggestion, I've read good things about Metro vacs but I don't have any first hand experience with them. I personally use a 16gal mid-80s era craftsman shop vac rated at 11amp/120 volts. I guess I'd say just visit websites and look up the specs.

I do not think that there will be crazy demand for shop vacs, so if you don't get there at 4am, you should be fine!

I'm cleaning u my garage to have it organized for myself....trying to figure out how to cut this annoying table. Anyways I was talking to an employee at the home depot I went to and the guy said that they had 16 vacs on that pallet and it was mostly gone to construction workers so they can connect that to their ridgid table saw.
