Question for the detailers here as I have a cleaning project ahead of me. My father and I are restoring an old parade float from my youth for my son to have this summer. The float is made of unfinished sheets of aluminum. There is quite of bit of exterior corrosion from 25 years of hanging in the barn at the family farm. I have cleaned using TAW and soft bristle brushes to remove as much dirt and debris as possible. From there, I figured I should use a few products in test areas to see what might work best. So far have used the following all with varying degress of success... 1. Optimum Metal Polish - using Fine Steel Wool and with MF towels 2. Eagle One Aluminum Polish - using Fine Steel Wool and MF towels 3. Eagle One Aluminum Wheel Spray Cleaner - MF towels 4. Solution of hot water, vinegar - soaking test area with towel Probably to no one's surprise the Optimum metal polish is showing the best results followed by the Eagle One Polish. However, both are taking lots of rubbing and attention to get the aluminum shining again. So in looking for a more efficient option, curious what you guys might recommend as a proven solution. Input, thoughts, help? FYI, the parade float is a motorized Spirit of St. Louis replica. Going to be a lot of work this summer to get it (1) running again and (2) shining like aluminum should... Appreciate the help here, thanks.
