Hey guys and girls. Im detailing a boat and Im having some issues with water staining on the lower parts. Ive wetsanded the entire coat starting with 400g, and I still cant get rid of this shadowline...can water stain gelcoat to the point where it cant be removed, or do I need to keep wetsanding?

Can you post some pics? Usually the hulls are washed down with an acid to clean everything off.

Before wet sanding, I washed with ZEP Citrus Degreaser + DG 901, and then followed it with DuPont PrepSol. Im not familiar with giving it an acid wash! Interesting...

The line is hard to pick out, as this side hasnt been washed yet...this is 21 yr old gel coat that hasnt been touched in at least 15 years.

The line goes almost horizontally across the white section. The staining is black and yellow, but the black removes extremely easy.

Here is another shot from the wetsanded side. ITs hard to get my camera to pick this up like Im seeing it in person. It certainly seems to be a water line...

I would contact a local marine shop to get some cleaner for the hull. It'll be way easier on you and faster in the long run. :)
