got my new flashes today, that makes a total of 3, plan on getting 2 more, and my home made ring flash with the results
I like that flash on the right end :druling: I've been meaning to go pick up a flash and a new lense but haven't made up my mind on the new lense just yet. Just curious why so many flashes Scott? Does each one serve a different purpose? Just wondering that's all. Oh why are each flash different sizes?
I just bought a 580EX II for my XT and LOVE IT. I'm using a Gary Fong Lightsphere with it and check out some of the shots I got! I used a home made lightbox for these (more here on that...)
I believe they are used to synchronize the flash times. I'm not familiar with the Cannon (or non-Nikon for that matter) flash system. The Nikon flash system has a built-in transmitter on certain camera body models and certain flash / commander models (SB800 or SU800) and receivers on all other current model flashes. So the user can have multiple flash units sitting on a stand or tripod and have control (flash timing, duration, etc) of each of them from the camera or commander / flash with the commander capability.
correct , you have a transmitter on your camera and a transmitter on every flash, and you can shoot off camera flashes wireless
huh..interesting, so you have a bunch of flashes and use them to balance the light Scott? Why not just purhcase some of those umbrela thingies (sorry don't know there real name) I know they aren't cheap though but isn't that better to balance/create the ideal lighting?
the umbrella is used to defuse the light, you only use one umbrella per flash, when i do my next shoot i will post up and show you what i am talking about
heres a shot with the ring light i made you can see how the flash isnt connected to the camera but it still goes off...
um..okay so what is the purpose of the ring light? Sorry I feel silly asking but if I don't ask I'll never know :sorry: Look forward to your next photo shoot, I remember the last photo shoot that was outside in the dark that you had two umbrellas... So what do you mean to defuse the light? Meaning to make it look softer? Sorry I don't know all these technical terms but I "may" get the idea becuase a co-worker is a hard core photographer as well and talks about a bunch of stuff about taking pictures as well so I just keep asking and eventually it will sink it :wall:
haha its ok man, i understand its alot to learn, with umbrellas and soft boxes you get much more natural soft light that seems to rap around the body and direct flash gives a more harsh direct light, witch can work in some cases...the ring light gives a dead on rap around affect...it bends the light around the body..instead of using a on camera flash that only gives flat lighting..the ring light gives more of a 3d look
Oh okay I didn't know that about the 3d look, good to know though. So why did you build your own? Why not just go out there and purhcase one? Do they exist? I'm assuming they do, are they expensive? lol..more questions come on teacher Scott edumacate me :graduation:
haha yes they do exist and some up to $700 some $300 now when i get my own studio i will purchase one of the good ones, but this works for now lol
oooh good let us know how it turns out and what your experiance is :thumb: Thank you for sharing and taking the time to answer all my questions :worship2:
hey Scott, you got the exact same radio transmitter as me. It's a wonderful gadget...just wondering how much you paid for them?
i got my sender and receiver for 28 on ebay, then i got the other 2 receivers for like 15 bux for both of them...they work really good
