I'm starting to shop around for my next car. I have been known to take several months to decide what vehicle to ultimately buy.

The one thing that I am pretty set on is that I want a sport wagon

    Today's test drives include

    Volvo V50 -

    Saab 9-3 Sport Combi

    Acura Sport Wagon

Things that stuck out to me

The Volvo is very solid. Everything feels very well built and like it would stand the test of time which is important to me as I will be purchasing and I average 30k miles a year. The low 2.9% APR Volvo offers, the 5 year warranty and the safety record of Volvo are all things that are important to me. The center stack is also very interesting and I like it

Saab 9-3 Sport Combi : As far as exterior appearance goes this one does the least for me. I was extrememly impressed with how quick it is and I made a comment to my son (riding shotgun) that this vehicle would get me too mant speeding tickets. Contrary to the V50, the 9-3 did not feel solid, the controls in the interior all felt like they could easily be damaged.

Acura Sport Wagon: This was the most polished interior... Down side, the rear passenger headroom seemed to be lacking.

Overall, it was a fun day of test drives but I am still leaning towards the V50 R-Design...

I know what you mean about having a nice sportwagon - they are so useful and still ride like a car.

I havent seen the Acura new sportwagon, didnt know they made one. Having said that, I can say that the '04 Acura MDX we had for 3 years was a solid, dependable, well made vehicle that never gave us any trouble. It worked so good, we didnt even have to put tires on it until the 3rd year, and the old ones were not completely worn out, and they all wore very evenly. It never got past a certain mileage number now matter what you did to it, that would be my only area of concern for this marque.

Volvo will always be a sold built Swedish vehicle, built like a tank, etc.. If the mileage it gets is good for you, then it sounds like this may be a keeper then..

I recently detailed a beautiful new Volvo Wagon, in black, and the leather inside was just unbelievably beautiful and soft - some of the best leather I have had the pleasure to work on in a long time.

The entire vehicle was very nice, and I might even consider one sometime, when my wife gets tired of her '2003 BMW 540iT M5 Replica Wagon.. :)

    Good Luck with your research!

Yep... Exactly why I want a sport wagon... The tsx sport wagon just hit dealers.... I have several pics of the tsx wagon in a thread I posted here about the 2011 north American auto show... I have driven honda products for years and fully agree with you on the incredible reliability!

The Volvo V50 gets 19 mpg city and 27 mpg highway... Very impressive for the amount of car being pulled around!

With the amount of miles (30k a yr) I put on my vehicles I have been told that the maintenance will be head and shoulders more than other makes I am looking at. Would you disagree ?

    I would go with a honda/acura product.

I know the TSX looks way better, but have you thought about a crosstour?

Jason, what about the CTS wagon? I remember a detail you did on a CTS-V once that was spectacular.

yes Audi maintenance is costly unless you work for them...

If I were to go with that architecture I would have to sway to the rdx which is way overpriced for what you get. In fact the crosstour is way overpriced and is really bloated and that is also present on the way it handles.

The turbo I-5 in the Volvo V50 I have my eye on is supposed to be indestructible!! Perfect for someone like me who keeps cars until they have at least 200k miles on the odo.

If I were to get the CTS I would everyday long for the V version. The CTS is very common around these parts and after having my current vey vanilla car for 200160 miles I yearn for something a bit less common. The employee discount I can get on GM products does make it sweeter. I just don't know if it would be kicking for as many miles as I put on my vehicles

    PS: thanks for the compliment

I would go with the V50 R-Design, it just looks like a sleek car, almost makes a statement for itself. I just read an article on the new Acura Sportwagon and while the reviewer loved it and had nothing but great things to say he said he wish they put the normal TSX V6 in it rather than the 4 banger.

I drove my parents V50 for a few years before getting my own car and it was indeed solid. Never had any major problems with it and the turbo fives are bullet proof if maintained. It's unfortunate they are phasing the v50 out.

I don't know about the V50, But I just read a test on the S60 and I'm impressed as hell!

Thanks for the first hand input... Your experience is consistent with all I have heard, and researched about the I-5 turbo

Were it not for my current bias toward wagons that would be on my list of contenders
