So I've been sort of hanging around a body/performance shop for a few years now and have become good friends with the mechanic and the owner/bodywork guy. They do everything from insurance jobs to pay the bills, custom work (although he hates body kits, people usually pay pretty well to have them painted and put on) to mechanical, engine swaps, turbo builds -- whatever you need basically. Ben (the owner) LOVES what he does, and it does it very well. He's known for making it look like it never happened, or better than it was before. His paintwork is amazing and his attention to lining up body panels when assembling is just phenominal. Ben has one flaw. He HATES polishing. With a passion. He hates it so much in fact, he's willing to pay me to do it for him. It probably won't be a super regular gig, but I think he's willing to pay me $35/hr for polishing so he can move on to other projects. In the 3-4 years he's been doing business, I've NEVER seen his shop slow. Between body work and mechanical (Guillaume, his mechanic is known as the Honda GOD for performance/swaps/racing, he's raced for Honda, is a platinum certified honda mechanic, blah blah, has an 875whp Civic that scares me) So this could hopefully work out pretty well. To benefit both of us, we'll probably do some "off the books" and some one, just not to break too many laws at once, haha. I'm going to polish one of their shop cars today at 3 (I have until 4:30 when I need to be at a customer's, but I'm only going to do the hood and one fender. I'll be able to work on it at my leisure and it'll be a few bucks in product, a few hours of time and the car will look great! And they get an awesome car, I get some cheap advertising. I think it's win-win. Thoughts? Questions? Concerns?
Sounds like a great opportunity, it does seem like a win-win as he hates to polish and you enjoy it so might as well hook up and get the job done. Glad to see things fall back into place.
I hate to polish also....I get the biggest Boogers you ever did see :gross: You have to be at another customers at 4:30, and your starting at 3:00. You must work fast, I like that.:applause2:
I'm just doing one panel here, one there. As I have time. It'll probably take me a week to polish it full with just putting in some time here and there.
